Why peel open a banana then slice it when you can do it all in one shot? How-to maven and YouTube star Dave Hax spills the secret.
All you need is a few seconds and a sewing needle or pin. Take the needle to the top of one of the banana’s edges, and sink it in without letting it go through the other side of the fruit. Gently move the pin back and forth for a few seconds, and repeat the process about 10 times, or down the length of the banana.
When complete, the banana should have tiny holes from the needle on one just side. If you’re looking to amuse guests, turn the fruit over so only the smooth surface is showing. Now, simply peel the banana and the slices are ready. Show off this trick at your next holiday party to impress kids and adults alike.
Another banana trick—peel it from the bottom instead. (Dave peels it from the top). Just a slight pinch will open it. Bonus: This method also results in dealing with zero of those pesky banana strings!
