Let’s be honest, conventional medicine is making progress and a lot of things have changed in the last four decades. Prevention of diseases is one of the areas where we have witnessed a lot of changes.
Yet, when it comes to treating cancer, doctors still prefer the cutting and burning method as the only way to solve this problem. This means that it is still the best idea to take some measures to lower the chances of developing cancer.
There is one thing that most doctors forget (or don’t want) to mention and recommend. Namely, there is a method that is all-natural, simple and a method that was proven by more than one scientific study. This method can protect any individual from cancer.
Sulforaphane is the only thing you need to prevent cancer. This compound is present in cruciferous veggies and broccoli sprouts seem to have the highest amount.
The Sulforaphane Study Conducted by Dr. Talalay That Changes Everything
Dr. Paul Talalay issued a report about 20 years ago in a Johns Hopkins PR in which he claims that broccoli sprouts that are 3 days old come with compounds that can protect people from the negative effects of chemotherapy. But, what is even better is that these young sprouts have up to 50 times more of these compounds compared to broccoli heads that are ripe. So, with the help of young broccoli sprouts people can lower the risk of cancer.
In addition, Dr. Talalay has founded a Chemoprotection Center which is part of the School of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University. He remains to be one of the best biomedical scientists on our planet and one of the most knowledgeable persons when it comes to phytochemicals.
The revolutionary scientific study designed and conducted by Dr. Talalay which was finished in 1991 was a study that has shown the world that it is possible to prevent cancer with the help of diet changes.
This study has also shown that it is possible to isolate the specific compound called sulforaphane found in cruciferous veggies and use it as a protection against cancer. It turned out that sulforaphane is efficient because it enhances the effects of phase two enzymes in our body and the basic goal of these enzymes is to prevent the emergence of diseases.
Talalay’s team gave extracts from broccoli sprouts to a group of female lab rats for exactly five days. After that, they used carcinogenic compounds on these rats and another group that didn’t get the extract. They’ve found out that the group that didn’t get any extract developed much more tumors. On the other hand, the rats that consumed the extract had fewer and smaller tumors.
What is interesting is that when Talalay and his team wanted to publish their results, a few magazines rejected their offer. They have managed to publish these important results after one year in the popular Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. After that, there were dozens of reports that have emphasized the efficiency of sulforaphane and other phytochemicals.
Cancer Prevention Requires Immediate Actions
Sadly, conventional medicine is still relatively inactive in the field of cancer prevention and they are more focused on solving the consequences. According to Michael Sporn, a well known researcher and professor who works at Dartmouth Medical School, prevention seems to be unattractive to pharmaceutical companies.
Unfortunately, the number of cancer cases is growing every year. Some statistics say that there are ten million new patients diagnosed with cancer every year and almost 250.000 of them are diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. So, cancer prevention should definitely be one of the top concerns of healthcare professionals and researchers.
Keep in mind that each of us can be proactive and that there are ways to keep our health at high level and to prevent cancer. Start this quest by including more foods rich in sulforaphane in your daily diet.
