What is it about chain necklaces that causes them to become knotted and tangled, seemingly every time we grab one to wear? It’s a frustrating moment, especially if you’re in a hurry, and it seems like most of our attempts to untangle the chain just make the knot worse!
No one can say they have never faced the pain of a knotted and tangled up necklace. The longer and thinner the chain, the easier a knot gets in and the harder it usually is to get rid of it. But no worries – there’s a quick and easy way to solve that necklace knot issue!
Base. Lay out your necklace on a hard and even surface. It’s best to use a plain white or black sheet and spread your necklace on it so you can perfectly see the knot.
Apply oil. Put a drop of olive oil or baby oil onto the knot and gently rub it in – this will make the necklace slippery and therefore easier to untangle.
Untangle. Now ready for the ultimate solution? A simple needle will do the trick. Just take one out of your sewing box and start picking it into the knot. This works great for loosening tight knots and you will quickly see it opening up a bit! Then take a second needle, put both needlepoints into the open gap and pull the knot apart.
Rinse. Don’t forget to clean off the baby oil with some warm water and mild shampoo. This will give your necklace a new shine and get it ready to sparkle around your neck again!
Once the necklace is detangled, give it a quick cleaning and enjoy wearing! Once you’re finished, keep things untangled by threading the chain through a straw when you store it.
