Hola! It’s time for another new beauty trend! Geez! It seems like every week there’s something new we should be buying. I’ve noticed Argan oil products for our hair getting some attention lately. Have you seen the wave of products? I planned on sharing them with you, but then I realized I didn’t know much about this “liquid gold” to begin with. I wanted to get to the root of it all (no pun intended).
What exactly is Argan oil? And why is it in such demand? It was time for me to do my research. I found out that Argan oil derives from the seed of the fruit from the endangered Argan Tree (Argania spinosa). It only grows in the southwest region of Morocco—an area that is now protected under UNESCO. Apparently, the goats in the area really love it and practically climb all over each other and the tree to eat the fruit. Using traditional cold pressing methods, the majority of Argan oil production is done by hand by local Berber women.
It does take some time to produce, which is why it can be a little pricey. It is rich in antioxidants and vitamins and can be used for cooking—but we’re here to talk beauty! Let’s just get this out in the open. I have to admit that I thought Argan and Moroccan oils were two completely separate oils. Turns out Moroccan oil is a mixture of Argan oil and other ingredients used for mostly cosmetic products. We all know that Argan oil is not new. It’s actually really popular, very effective, and has been used for hundreds of years. It can be used from head to toe—with “miraculous” results. In fact, I put together gallery below of a few ways you can use this “miracle oil” in your beauty routine. I’d recommend buying 100% pure Argan oil from a reputable beauty company or brand. Also, please remember to test this oil out (like you would any new beauty product) on a small patch of skin, like your hand, before using it all over your body. It is an all natural oil, but you still don’t want to find out you’re allergic to it when it’s too late. We all have different skin types, which may also give us different reactions.
Argan oil can be used in various ways on your face to add a dewy glow. Use as a day or night moisturizer by rubbing a few drops between your hands and gently patting it on to your face. I’ve even seen a few drops of it added to your favorite face mask ingredients or foundation.
Add a few drops to your dry hands and gently massage into your cuticles. This has been known to help with splitting or cracking nails too!
Dealing with dry lips? Dab a drop of Argan oil on your lips instead of your normal lip balm. Use daily for softer lips. You can even add a drop of it to your favorite D.I.Y lip scrub.
Strengthen and tame frizzy hair with a few drops of Argan oil. Just add to the palms of your hands and work through your hair. This will add shine and moisture. It’s also great for those dreaded dry ends or dry scalp. If you have thinner hair, use sparingly.
Your toes and dry heels will appreciate a quick rub down with Argan oil before bed. Just throw on some socks afterwards and wake up in the morning with softer feet.
