Do you often have a shower just before going to bed and then go to bed with wet hair wrapped in a towel? If your answer is yes, then you should review this habit because it has a number of adverse consequences.
Falling asleep with wet hair wrapped in a towel is not harmless. Although experts have proven that the myths that sleeping with a wet hair will cause pneumonia or colds are false, this habit still has consequences on your health.
“A head wrapped in a towel will raise temperature and humidity that will cause headaches”
Unlike non-REM sleep, REM sleep rises the body temperature. Then the head wrapped in a towel gets warm and the rise in temperature and the humidity can cause headache.
It is no secret that pillows are a ‘home’ for dust mites and bacteria because they absorb sweat, dead skin cells and oils from the body. Wet hair will dampen the towel, and it will transfer the wetness to the pillowcase and the pillow and then, in combination with heat, pillows become fertile ground for the growth of fungi.
In the mornings, we don’t often have the time to put the pillowcase and pillow on fresh air in order to get them dry, especially in the winter, and all that benefits the development of bacteria.
Tinea Capitis, also known as the ringworm of the hair, is characterized by patches of bald spots caused by fungal infections on our scalp. This disease also causes the hair to break close to the scalp. It is a important thing to know that Tinea Capitis can be transmitted to other people. The moment another person gets to sleep on your pillow, that “ringworm” will attack his or her scalp as well. If not prevented or treated, this can cause hair loss.
3.Breaks the hair
During the night we always crush and sleep on our hair, which is bad for it because it makes it break easily, especially when wet.
A damaged hair shaft is another downside of sleeping with wet hair. The “hydrogen bond” of our hair becomes fragile when wet- so lying down won’t help you get shiny fine hair.
You should be careful only if you sleep with your hair wrapped in a towel. Wearing it during the day is harmless.
