It’s a common saying that age is just a number. And rightly so, because in this world of broken relationships despite of age compatibility, there is no reason why couples with large age differences can’t be happy. Take for example this couple with a 26 year age gap. Both are not just happy, but in the process of raising their own little miracle baby.
Sarah, 31 and Mike, 57, have been happily married for 12 years. The couple has an even bigger reason to celebrate, as they are now the proud parents of a beautiful miracle baby of their own. Due to several physiological reasons, a baby wasn’t possible and now they have little Joshua and the couple is ecstatic.
1 The Couple Met When She Was Only 19
Sara Leigh Bergin from Nantwich, Cheshire, UK, first met her husband Mike when she was just 19. Mike was 45 at the time. Despite of objections and reservations from friends and family, they went ahead. To strangers on the road, Sara and Mike looked like father and daughter, but that didn’t bother them in the least. This couple was in love and for them the age gap didn’t really matter. They married in 2011.The only obstacle marring this near perfect and happy marriage was that the couple couldn’t have a baby.
Mike’s irreversible vasectomy was one dominant factor that did not allow him to conceive a child. Moreover, Sara too suffered from polycystic ovaries and imbalanced hormone syndrome. Sara said, “In 2014, I started to research different IVF clinics, due to being turned down by the NHS for treatment because Mike had a vasectomy.” The couple even visited a fertility clinic on Fertility Road where expert Tone Jarvis –Mack advised them on what to do. After meeting Norweginian, Doctor Hausken at the London Fertility show, they decided to travel to Norway for specialized treatment.
2 The Couple Faced Great Odds against Conceiving a Child
The odds were definitely against the couple, but they were determined. The benefit of receiving treatment in Norway was the cost effective charges, being £2000 for each treatment in comparison to £7000 in the UK. It took Sara and Mike three attempts, but on the third attempt, they were rewarded with seeing Sara’s pregnancy test showing the blue line, which meant positive.
Sara said, “Seeing the blue line appear on the pregnancy test was the best moment of our lives and then watching my bump grow was incredible.” On June 5, the couple was blessed with a little baby boy, whom they named Joshua. The baby weighed 6 lbs and 910 Oz.
3 A Perfect Complete Family at Last
Sara, who is a social worker in Cheshire, was extremely happy that their wish had come true. Here was a couple with a 26 year age gap and they had actually conceived a baby; it was a miracle. The couple published their story in the IVF Fertility magazine to prove to other couples that such things can be achieved with the right motivation. According to Sara, the couple faced immense criticism. Even after their baby she feels people may assume that Mike is Joshua’s granddad but for Sara, they are a perfect family.
Prior to their marriage, Sara’s parents questioned her intentions a lot, but now when they’ve seen little Joshua and know that they have a grandson; they too are over the moon and are extremely happy. Although Joshua did give the couple a scare after being born, he is now fine. The baby had to be put in intensive care and high dependency unit after he suffered an infection.
4 Age Is Just A Number, It Is Love and Trust That Matter the Most
After spending 12 days in the hospital, the couple was allowed to bring Joshua home. Today, Sara is a happy mom and is positive about both of them being great parents. Sara is also hopeful of the fact they may return to Norway to give little Joshua a brother or sister as they still have two embryos reserved in their name. Thanks to the remarkable IVF team at Klinnik Hauseken in Norway, this couple with the 26 year age gap now has a complete family. As I said age hardly matters, it is love and trust which matters the most in a relationship.
