When you’ve been with someone for your entire life, letting them go can be one of life’s most difficult challenges.
So when Jimmy Breland lost his beloved wife Billie Breland last week, he was devastated.
Jimmy didn’t know how to react or how he could go on alone when Billie passed on at the age of 83.
For the last several years, Breland started to lose her memory. But things got much worse after she fell and broke her hip around Thanksgiving last year.
While her family remained optimistic, she never recovered from her fainting spells and never returned home from the hospital.
But her husband of 60 years was by her side throughout her challenging hospital stay. This man was a retired Baptist student minister who had “preached at just about every church in the Mississippi Delta.”
Since Breland was a respected school teacher herself, hundreds of people reportedly visited the funeral home. She had touched many lives in a positive way.
During her months at the hospital, Breland knew that she wasn’t going to make it. And she didn’t want her husband to struggle after her passing. So she found a way to help him.
She wrote a note and left it where her husband would find it after she died. It read:
“Please don’t cry because I died! Smile because I lived! Know that I’m in a happy place! Know that we will meet again! I’ll see you there!”
While Breland had been a note writer and kind person her whole life, no one was that surprised by the note. But for her grieving husband, it was the exact message he needed to keep moving forward.
