It’s always great fun to change up our hairstyle every now and again. Getting a new haircut, availing a perm, or sitting out a hair coloring session are easy ways to give ourselves a little relaxation as well as a brand new look. And of course, who better to trust your hair with than the professionals at beauty parlors?
However, while it is a great load of fun, we have to remember that it is not advisable for us to avail of hair treatments so often. The chemicals and products used in most of these procedures can be harmful to our hair, and might leave our shiny, bouncy, beautiful locks dull and dry over just a short period of time. While it’s advisable to stay away from frequent chemical hair treatments, it’s a big challenge to resist the urge to make those changes. Luckily for us, there are lots of natural hair treatments we can perform at home to change the color of our hair the healthy way. Here are a few of them.
When life gives you lemons, lighten your hair! While some people prefer to elbow their way in a frantic shopping frenzy in search of the best hair lightening products, the solution may very well be in your fridge. Lemons have been said to lighten dark hair and also works as a great remedy to kill dandruff-causing organisms. To lighten hair with lemon juice, simply squeeze out two tablespoons and massage it gently into your hair, ensuring that you’ve gotten each and every strand and area of your scalp. After that, sit out in the sun until it completely dries out. For more evident effects, use this technique at least twice a week.
Vinegar is more than just a cooking ingredient – it’s the perfect way to achieve effortless highlights, especially if you’re a redhead. Vinegar has been said to leave behind reddish highlights when used on hair making it an ideal hair lightening technique for girls with the same hair color. It does take a bit of time for this regimen to show results however, so be patient! Add one part vinegar with 16 parts water and use this solution to wash your hair. Leave it on for about 15 minutes or so before rinsing it out with water.
Honey and Olive Oil
Honey and olive oil both give great benefits when used on hair separately, but together, this killer combination makes for an awesome hair lightening regimen. To lighten your hair with honey and olive oil, mix in ¼ cup of warm honey with ¼ cup of olive oil. Stir the solution well so it’s evenly mixed together. Divide your hair into sections where you want your highlights to show and apply the solution there. Leave it for half an hour to an hour, and right before you rinse it out, massage it into all of your hair. Remember to give great attention to the ends of the strands.
More than just a delicious coating for pretzels and baked goodies, cinnamon works as a wonderful way to lighten your dark hair. To make a hair lightening cinnamon concoction, use half a cup of your daily condition and put in enough cinnamon powder to turn it into a thick pasty substance. Brush this solution through your hair and leave it on for approximately 3-4 hours. If you want to go the extra mile, wrap your hair in a shower cap and leave it on overnight. Not only has this been said to lighten hair, it also works as a great way to bring out some extra bounce and shine to your luscious locks.
And there you have it! Do you know any other hair lightening techniques we haven’t mentioned? We would love to hear about them! Let us know in the comments section below!
