Women all know that menopause is a natural and inevitable part of their life cycle…but with everything youhear about it, no one really looks forward to it. Some people are afraid they are just going to shrivel up and look old overnight! While that’s not true, there are many real changes that go on prior to menopause (“Perimenopause”), and when the menstrual cycle actually is over for a full year, which is menopause itself.
The truth is, that everyone goes through menopause differently, it’s worse for some than others…but it can be said with certitude that the whole experience is no picnic!! When I came across the video you are about to watch below, I just had to share it, because it is an absolutely hilarious summation of menopausal symptoms by several women who had me falling off my chair.
If you are a woman who has experienced premenstrual “insanity” from the hormonal shift, you will be ready for the high level of EMOTIONALITY during menopause. Crying at the drop of a hat, or going from ‘zero to hundred’ if someone looks at you the wrong way, is par for the course.
Then there are the lovely moments when you find BLACK HAIRS growing out of your CHIN, that is beyond cringe-worthy. You find yourself, tweezer in hand, always checking for those beauties before you go out of the house.
MENOPAUSAL INSOMNIA is a common problem; either having trouble falling asleep or waking up with night sweats completely drenched, and then not being able to fall back asleep. Of course there are the infamous HOT FLASHES that can occur out of nowhere, during the day, where you are out in the world and break into a sweat where you are drenched from head to foot..NOT FUN!
CRAVINGS FOR SWEETS are out of control..particularly CHOCOLATE which definitely does something to quiet the savage beast, and just gives you relief from everything…for a minute, until the WEIGHT GAIN begins…
FORGETFULNESS or “FOG BRAIN”, doesn’t happen to everyone, but it is common to forget the most basic things. Going up and down the stairs to get something 3 times, and forgetting what you were going for is frustrating, but it does pass! This is not a permanent state of forgetfulness.
Another joy of menopause for some, is a really undesirable return to teenage-like ACNE! Again, this doesn’t happen to everyone, but some of you may have to cope with this AGAIN!
Because of the rapid and unpredictable hormonal roller-coaster, you may find yourself without your normal filter for WHAT COMES OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. Suddenly you’re ‘Mrs. George Washington’!
If you had a tendency to swell, retaining water during pregnancy, get ready for FEET THAT DOUBLE IN SIZE if you even look at salt! Not just overemotionality, but MOOD SWINGS where you may find yourself crying, laughing, shouting and screaming, and then laughing again…all within a 30 minute period! Yikes! This can cause you to have a stronger need for PERSONAL BOUNDARIES than you normally do, sometimes flinching from an unexpected touch. For a while there, you are just a walking nerve ending!
FREQUENT CHANGES IN BODY TEMPERATURE, is crazy making not just for you, but for those who live with you. So Hot…windows and air conditioning on; Then freezing..heat on…and so on. WATER RETENTION, CONSTANT HUNGER, EMOTIONAL UPS AND DOWNS…Menopause is a ride for sure, but the good news is it all balances out eventually. Coping skills for this charming time of life is for another article, but the one thing that always helps going through any challenging time in life, is the ability to LAUGH AT YOURSELF! The footage below will start that laughter off right now..these women are truly hilarious!
